KALINO wins Gr.1 Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown in Abu Dhabi (08/11/15)

KALINO (Kaolino x Virlaxy) won the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown (Group 1) on Sunday 8th November at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club race course. Highlight of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, this race had a prize money of €1.2 million.

KALINO has previously finished second in a Group 2 PA in Qatar at 4 in the Qatar Derby, and second in the Group 1 PA in France in the Doha Cup in Deauville in 2014. His last race was the Qatar Arabian World Cup in Longchamp (France) on a distance and ground that probably did not suit him, according to his trainer, Alban de Mieulle.

Jockey Olivier Peslier told reporter after the race: “It is a great win. This is like a French team but the horse is from Qatar. I’m so happy to come and win here tonight. We have seen all the best jockeys and horses as well as apprentice jockeys here and to win amongst them feels great.”

KALINO followed the leader MANARK at the beginning of the race and took the lead in the last turn. SAHABBA came strongly to challenge him, but KALINO responded well to his jockey and fought bravely to win by a nose.

KALINO was bred in USA, at Trackside Farm, and started his racing career in France for owner Awn Al-Aidarous. Since 2013, he carries the colours of HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani and raced in France, Qatar and the UK.

KALINO’s dam is the American bred mare VIRLAXY (Virgule Al Maury) and his sire is Shadwell Arabian Stallion KAOLINO (Dormane), winner of the Dubai Kahayla Classic (Gr.1 PA) in 2004. KAOLINO stands at Mandolynn Hill Farm (Texas) and is available for AI (frozen semen) worldwide.
